Introduction: Marissa Earls (Member Chair)-We had 19 people in attendance
Question of the month: Out of all of the states that you haven’t visited, which one is at the top of your list to go to?
Hot Spot: Breakfast Sponsor (3 minutes)-Scott Metzler with Goosehead Insurance: Scott grew up in Delaware County and went to Delta High School. Scott joined Goosehead because of his unwavering commitment to taking care of his clients. Using cutting-edge technology to shop with dozens of “A” rated insurance companies in just a few short minutes, he is able to find the right coverage at a competitive price. He takes the time to review all of the options and customizes a policy based on the unique risks and desires of each client. After finalizing an option, Scott is backed by a service team that has the highest client loyalty rating in the industry. He can give you choices and educate you on the different options you have with your home, auto, umbrella, flood, and specialty insurance. Scott stated that inspections on homes have increased. Home prices should level off, they aren’t going down. We should expect our auto insurance to go up a little bit. The hurricanes will affect insurance costs for Indiana. You should review your policy annually with your agent. Roofs are like tires on a car, you don’t wait until you have an accident to get new tires on your car, and don’t wait to replace your roof until you have a hole in it! A lot of carriers are going to cash value if your roof is 10 years or older. Make sure you are aware of the age of your roof if you are a buyer or seller. If you don’t have a local agent, find one to sit down with to go over all your insurance needs!

Program: Liz Rozelle presents: “Can’t get to the library? Yorktown Public Library Outreach Program has your back!”
Why we are here: in 1999, Howard Gregory and Don Bonnet offered the old Rite-Aid building to be used as a public library. Bev LaVelle and others did the hard work and in 2000, the doors of the Yorktown Public Library were opened. Over the last 24 years, the library has expanded in all areas and has become an important part of the community. In 2021 we re-opened after being closed for almost a year due to the pandemic and the construction project.
Our Mission Statement: The mission of the Yorktown Public Library is to provide a variety of current materials and services to meet the educational, informational, and recreational needs of the community. Every decision we make is based on fulfilling our mission. We serve all members of the community with care and respect. Customer service is the centerpiece of everything we do. Our staff is our most valuable asset and customer service is our top priority.

Outreach Services: We bring our mission, to provide a variety of current materials and services to meet the educational, information, and recreational needs of the community, to everyone in the community, even when they cannot physically visit the library. Outreach services were started in 2003 when Liz started. She went to a local assisted living community for story times and to bring materials to those who wanted them. Their outreach has increased over the years and has become a cornerstone of their philosophy of providing excellent customer service, no matter where you need us.
Outreach Coordinator: Beth Rahn is the Outreach Coordinator. She has been serving the community in this role since July 2018. Beth is with us today to answer any questions you may have. She will confirm that this is a rewarding job that involves library service as well as a listening ear, a caring soul, and a little bit of social services thrown in for good measure. She currently serves 72 outreach patrons.
Outreach patrons enjoy: a librarian that tailors outreach services to each individual and their special needs. Outreach patrons deserve and get the same library services as all patrons. Monthly visits with requested library materials. What’s available: books, audiobooks, DVD’s, eBooks, music, CD’s, magazines, interlibrary loan services, and reference services.
Holiday Market: Beth gathers donations throughout the year for the Holiday Market at Yorktown Manor. She gets volunteers to help guide residents through the market, to wrap presents, and to set up and tear down the market. The market is set up in a large room with tables that contain a variety of items to choose from (blankets, purses, gift sets, socks, trinkets, personal care items, stuffed animals, etc.) Each resident starts with 10 free tickets. Residents are encouraged to select 10 items in exchange for tickets. Residents can shop for themselves, their family or friends, or both. Wrapping services are offered for those who want their gifts wrapped. This is a fun, joyful program for the residents and volunteers!
Outreach locations: Yorktown Manor, Heritage Assisted Living, Muncie Estates, Pilgrim Place, and Homes throughout the library district of the Town of Yorktown.
We are here for you! Our goal is to be a great team player in the Yorktown community. We appreciate the way the town manager agreed to work with us in any way he can, to collaborate for the betterment of Yorktown.
A couple of years ago we partnered with the Town of Yorktown to conduct a community read with a free book and free programming based on the book. What a great way to bring the community together! Let’s do it again and again and again! Everyone wins!
The Holiday Market will be December 5th, it starts at 2:00 p.m. There are usually 65 people that come through, they are accepting donations. The items that they could use are personal care products, pop, and snacks. It was suggested that we could do a donation drive at the November Yorktown Chamber meeting.
