Pete Olson, Town Manager in Yorktown, has been working for the town for about 10 years. What does a town manager do? He oversees the function of the various departments, including water, sanitary and storm sewer, parks, streets, police, fire, zoning and general administration. He works with elected town council and clerk/treasurer in establishing and implementing various government and fiscal policies. He also helps create the town’s annual budget and perform capital and strategic planning. That means that he is in a lot of meetings—not only in Muncie but also in the county and the state.

At times he can be heard as the voice of the town on the local radio station as he promotes the latest in Yorktown once a month on WLBC Wake Up Morning Crew. He also chairs Indiana Municipal Management Association (IMMA) professional development committee and sends a weekly newsletter. Pete has a passion about providing excellent public service and implementing policies that make communities better places to live. This showed in how pleased Pete was with the positive results from the National Citizen Survey where the town was rated so highly by its peers. He admits there were no surprises but yes there are areas for improvement. Technology is a real love of his and he has introduced ways to use technology in the town.

Pete was city administrator in Sutton Nebraska and city manager in Union City, Indiana before becoming deputy town manager in Yorktown. Pete obtained his masters of public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002.

He is another avid runner in the community. He also in an organizer for Four for the Fourth, which commemorates its 5^th anniversary July 4. The four-mile run/walk event raises awareness and support for the trail systems in Yorktown. He was also named one of M Magazine’s 20 leader who were under 40 years of age who were enhancing the business and community landscape in East Central Indiana. Pete spends his off time in the fall officiating high school football games because it prepares him for citizen complaints. His favorite new/old car is a jeep wrangler that he is actively dumping way more money into than it is worth, he says.

He and wife Amy (Wes Del math teacher) have two dogs, Ursa the Saint Bernard and Echo the beagle. He and Amy love plays and musicals. He is reading Detroit: An American Autopsy.
